Republicans are progressive once a year at Christmas. When all the gifts have been opened, the big box (unopened), goes bang, and Trump pops out. With that business big man’s fist. Put it in a box and sell it. The true populist leader claims to represent the unified “will of the people.” He stands in opposition to an enemy, often embodied by the current system - aiming to “drain the swamp” or tackle the “liberal elite.” This is a rich dude gaming the system. This is what rich people do. They take a deep dive into the thing, and they usually come back to the surface coughing and spitting. Rich people all have Long, Long, Long covid. The rich guy is all tatter tot and potato head. No program, just the fist.

When I was teaching, I had some boys who would show me their fist. My eyes to the sky. Here, in Appalachia we are taking a deep dive into water melon and sprinklers, and we do not really care what he thinks or if he sticks that fist in the wrong face. I hope that does not happen. I’m sure it won’t. We run down the fishing dock to cannonball into the French Broad river. Before our cannonball hits the water, we’re into yelling TTTRRRRUUUUMMMPPPP and then we hit the water laughing, we are populists, we think laughing is important, and we think America gets what it deserves.
