Take notes. Ross has major chops with his interviewing skills. I’m not sure if I have ever seen or heard anything like this interview. I am interested in the sparring. In some ways, Ross did push some (Ross, you squirmed, don’t do that), and then he smiled and settled back down. I would have pushed Thiel on the anti-Christ stuff, first upfront. Thiel is a cowboy. I did not know that. Ross is reverent. Peter Thiel did more than squirm. It was authentic. He rarely seemed to have eye contact. Why is this a trait of all the Gods of Silicon Valley. I tell myself every day not to be autistic. What I see (I do not know what you see and I don’t really care that much about what you see) is someone who masks. We all mask. Thiel is very good at it, but I was not expecting the degree to which he seemed lost, deep in thought, and he was definitely nervous. Douthat has the ability to be an attack dog. But he masks, too. This was Nice Ross. Quietly questioning yet another billionaire. I have questions, too. Ross almost leapt off the couch when Thiel could not make himself say that homo sapiens sapiens should endure. The response was telling. He’s conflicted. Look at the body language. Obviously, Peter Thiel is brilliant. He’s very concerned that you are aware of that. OK, we’re aware of it. Ross was dying to get to religion. Thiel was dying to go home. Both men swallowed it. Manners. Civility. I come away with it with a bad taste in my mouth. Thiel is a very dangerous man. He scares me. – tim barrus
