How Many Enemies Can One Person Have

In Israel, Breach of Trust is a criminal event. As long as Benjamin Netanyahu remains Prime Minister, there will be no peace. Donald Trump faces prison. Oh, and what to do. Become President again. Why. It protects him. The Grand Republican Poobahs in government have decided we are not worth a real leader. We have imposed our will against a criminal President. Same. Boat. Israel. With one exception. Breach of trust. The mighty Trump is still staring down the prosecution. The snarky stuff, Trump, and the inevitable soap and showers jokes, scrapes away at his personal dignity which is more public humiliation than dignity. Breach of trust rises to the level of a vile criminality. Tens of thousands of Israelis feel their trust was breached, and they would absolutely testify. Trump sneaks back into the White House and hangs the Do Not Disturb on the door. The White House is not a motel, and Israelis remember. You have to be more than a little brave to live in this enraged, war-torn, suicidal part of the world. Both sides are wrong. Benjamin Netanyahu will drag the entire planet with him as he attempts to foil his prosecution. He is the wrong man for the wrong time. Our leaders and their leaders have to stop reinventing reality because actual reality bites back. Israel steals what it can from the Palestinians who exist at the razor’s edge. The edge of starvation, the edge of murder after murder after murder, and sheer hatred will be the black and bloody stain Israel has become. Disease and identity. Our culture is one where identity begins at birth – you are who we say you are – regardless of what is real, regardless of roles we are expected to play, and when you are on a public stage of simply being in public, you will pay a price for those moments of political wrangling. Politics is its own god, and the awareness that you, too, are your own god, and not obligated to follow the herd over the cliff. I drive a dirt bike. I wear a mask, and motorcycle helmet. You do not know who I am because I am not accessible to you from the other side of the face shield. Anonymity is liberation. When your second selves step outside of imposed roles (worker, mom, dad), where you are validated for following bartender rules that are arcane, nonsensical, degrading, humiliating, and exploitive, you nevertheless cannot find the words to articulate our tentative hold on who we are, what we are allowed to say, to write, we are what we drive, we are what we post to instagram (imagine 5 billion people, and none of them are who they say they are) we are a mysteriousness, we are embedded in what we wear.  To wear a mask is to pull the rug out from other human beings who do not understand, and never will, that there are those among us who are what we say we are. We are not the suits, the punishment police whose job is to shut us up, and I am told fingerprints are unique. Not true. If I chose to wear a mask, and I do, I am pitted not against other Homo sapiens, but against death. In Israel, Breach of Trust is a criminal event. As long as Benjamin Netanyahu remains the Prime Minister, there will be no peace. Donald Trump faces prison. Oh, and what to do. Become President again. Why. It protects him. The edge of starvation, the edge of murder after murder after murder, and sheer hatred will be the black and bloody stain Israel has become. Dig a little deeper. “The journey worth taking.” But what does that mean. Dig. A. Little. Deeper. Terms like: Younger and younger. Content to watch TV. It takes money to do that. Fulfilling life. These terms tell me a lot about what people are afraid of. Death. It’s all about death. Death stalks us, eats us, outmaneuvers us, spits us out, and breaks us. As a survivor of sexual abuse, my vision is exhausted and the floaters in my eyes blind me. Losing my vision was supposed to be a Life Changing Event. Life Changing Events are common. I just don’t care about any of it anymore. Longevity is overrated torture. It takes money, it takes a lot more than money. One eye at a time. What is it about a useless, terrified life that was as stoic as a rock. Why are you here. There seems to be a lot of agreement that quality of life is a fundamental Being There. Life and sadness after sadness. You endured. It would be enough. To endure. Anyone who told you that endurance was sacred, was reaching for a lofty rhetoric that in the end was about scars, not a romantic placidity the elderly themselves reject as parochial and condescending. Our goals. Our lives. The places where we lived those lives – all of it has failed in lie after lie, hatred after hatred, and what great people we were, we could tackle anything. Solve problems. We were generous. All we had to do was come together. Not one small molecule of it was real. But dig a little deeper. In the end, the pornography of age is age.
