Let’s review. The good guys have guns. The bad guys have guns. A legal gunfight. How is that even possible. I live in Appalachia in a tiny town with a lot of guns. Anything is possible. ICE’s shadow stands behind every door. We grow food. A lot of food. People, you eat it. We are not criminals. We are not religious zealots. We don’t have a Taxi Driver, no taxis. We have a carwash. No paper. No news. No health care. I have tried explaining alternate parking days. All I get is the look. We do have schools. They look like prisons. Who needs concertina wire around a school. We do. No one gets in and no one gets out. We don’t have many drug dealers. They’re all from Tennessee. Churches. Galore. Think: Andy of Mayberry reading the Bible on family night. There is law. The police chief can give you a parking ticket. If we fire her, no police. No meter maid. There is no infrastructure whatsoever. Do you know what an outhouse is. The law gets murky down here, too. We have never seen a gunfight, but it might be kinda fun. What we are seeing is ICE. This is the South. ICE is raining hell upon us. ICE. Is. The. Law. They are breaking down the doors of people who have lived here forever, and in the South, their militancy will backfire. If the people who pick the food leave, and never come back to their homes (they are home owners), you will not be fed the bounty that comes from our land. Our friends are kicked out. We are next. America is exactly what we thought it was. A legal gunfight to the very end. – Tim Barrus
