Tim Barrus: New York Times
Take notes. I have no faith. Things are worsening fast. I got my kids to another country. I am hopeful we will have a civil war. Repeat: I am hopeful we will have a civil war. The problem is that – allow me to call them the Normals – it is now normal for everyone in this small village who all know each other, marry each other, teach each other. People pitch in. I ate dinner at your house. Today the town is a tourist trap. Downtown (in a store) we have a big old shark tank. With one very sad shark. This is Appalachia. Mountain country. No ocean. Come on down.
We are overrun by tourists. Let’s go see the shark. Summer visitors clocked in at 200,000. You have ruined our way of life. Now, we endure. The town itself is filthy. We live in trailers and hovels. There is no hope in that. To preach the inflammatory message that unless we have faith, we are subhuman. Your numbers are abuse. Your ideas are also abuse. Faith. Is not an idea. It is the lie of lies. You either have faith or we will shun you. We get lots of that. You will never get better if you don’t have faith.
Faith is a desperate ruins. Once again, the New York Times is selling itself to the Upper Middle Class. The message here is: We will show you what has value and you will get better. In fact, you will die if you do not cooperate. Human goodness is for Disney. Not us. I count guns. Not people who are likely to vote. Guns speak the truth. More guns is where we are headed. Civil war is coming. I have faith for it. – tim barrus
