Young Boy Prostitutes Are Being Shot and Killed in Libya

Boys doing sex work in and around Tripoli, especially in the vicinity of Aboshhiwa, and just south of Qaser Bin Ghashir, (conveniently located for businessman traveling in and out of Houari Boumediene) are being shot and killed by ex-military brigades after refusing to do particular sex acts (mostly anal sex) because the boys had started to understand HIV transmission. If a boy refuses, he’s shot dead.

Tareq (13) maneuvered through a pile of dead bodies, crawling out, and although shot, managed to escape.

For more than a year, Médecins Sans Frontières has been providing medical care in conditions that are horrific and inhumane.

Smash Street Safe House has become involved with Tareq out of the awareness that crimes against boy sex workers in Libya are not the kind of crimes limited to tricks flying in and out of Tripoli who are being protected by tribal groups involved in guerrilla warfare and need fast cash which foreigners involved in sex tourism can provide. These crimes are increasing all over the globe as newly evolved HIV education rubs up against the dogs of war.

Health care in Libya is almost nonexistent, and has been overwhelmed by migrants attempting to make it into Europe.

Most boys who are as badly damaged as Tareq do not live long. The antibiotics needed to treat them are not there to treat anyone.

Unknown to Tareq, until recently, the thirteen-year-old is already infected with HIV, and he simply doesn’t have the T-cells necessary to recover as he is slipping into full-blown AIDS.

When asked about his chances, most medical personnel shake their heads, and walk away.

Now that he is involved with us, we shall see what happens. I will get back to people who have inquired here. I do read direct messages on Twitter and will try to find time to respond w/ updates.
