The Trump Administration is making plans with the Pentagon that would reinstate the draft in the Unites States. When asked what this meant, there was no comment.

The usual response is that contingency plans are always being made as a part of readiness. But this time, the Department of Defense has nothing to say to the American people.

Meanwhile, B-52s have been deployed to US Central Command, and are patrolling the Persian Gulf. F15C Eagles, and F-35A Joint Strike Fighters have joined what the DOD describes as “visible patrols.” B-52 Bombers have been landing in Qatar. Amphibious transports and Patriot Missile Batteries have also arrived in what is already being called the “theater.”

The United States is preparing for war.

Any war with Iran means an urban war. It would redefine the very idea of what war is. If this is just saber-rattling, Iran has not taken the bait.

But as Iran becomes surrounded by the US military, restraint will only last so long. Provocation is inevitable.
