Trump Needs To Be Careful

Tim Barrus: NY Times

Trump needs to be careful.

The Internet itself is bigger than a windbag. Am I allowed to use that term or is it uncivil. I do not know.

I want my internet to be uncivil. Internet gods who sit on a digital throne up in the digital clouds? What idea has worth. To box the Internet as two opposing points of view, liberal and conservative, is to miss a forest for a tree.

The Internet is loud and cranky. I am loud and cranky. Trump wants to be that god who decides what can be published.

Trump demands this. Trump demands that. Trump demands the Internet be controlled.

It would eat Trump alive for lunch. Another rant on Twitter. Ban everyone from comments. Ho hum.

The Trump voices are revenge. Let them compete. Trump does not tolerate competition. Trump wants the Internet the way he wants two scoops of ice cream. Enough ice cream.

Let us use the example of book publishing which used to be the province of let us go to the Hamptons for the summer and have martinis. Gentlemen. Play golf.

And then publishing became irrelevant.

Editors (I have known hundreds, and they only publish my books when they do not know it’s me) exist as censors.

Trump wants to be Editor-In-Chief-Censor-Old-Sleazo-Windbag. Oprah and her own civil magazine featuring guess who. Authority and power have always seen free speech to be a landscape of wild and crazy guys.

Trump is affronted he cannot always get two scoops of ice cream. Trump as editor. Every editor I have ever had is affronted by something.
